Artist Statement
Having had no formal training outside of high school art classes, my work is largely intuitive and dependent upon experience and the occasional happy accident. I enjoy working in oils as I feel I can best express the reverence I have for nature and weather through the sensual earthiness of the medium. Painting provides for me a means of expression of a deep connection with the natural world, especially when I feel I've represented it well. I paint because I want to share that connectedness with others. My subjects are largely based on observations, experience, and photographs. The changing light of day and the mood it creates are the foundations of my art. I enjoy the challenge of the realistic representation of nature and architecture, but I also improve on the style by adding personality to the palette. Each of my paintings is a tribute to color, shape, and moments of drama that elicit in me a sense of wonder and excitement and inspire me to keep searching and growing in a craft that I truly love.
